Safari in the Sunshine State

Walt Disney World in Florida offers a few different parks, but my mind was set on going on the safari ride in Animal Kingdom, so Charlotte and I did just that. This park didn’t have nearly as many rides as some of the others, but in exchange for it, we saw many animals in a zoo-like facility. The park is divided into a few areas, such as Africa, Asia, and Discovery Island, and some of the food stands and restaurants offered food from different parts of the world; of course, not as many as Epcot does.

Since there weren’t too many rides, we walked around a lot and saw the animals, but the rides we did go on included DINOSAUR, Expedition Everest, and Avatar Flight of Passage. Generally, I’m not the type of person to go on rollercoasters, for fear of falling to my death, but I faced my fear and actually enjoyed the Expedition Everest, which consisted of some darkness and going backwards at one point. Sometimes to have fun, you need to ignore your anxious thoughts. For those of you who love adventure (and Avatar), Avatar Flight of Passage is a 3D ride that takes you into Pandora, the world of Avatar, and it was extremely realistic and well worth the hour and more wait in line. 

Expedition Everest

Sticking with adventure and going back to my reason for choosing Animal Kingdom, the Kilimanjaro Safaris brought a safari to Florida, at least to the best of their ability, which was why I was so excited to go. We boarded the camouflage safari truck and set out on land and through water to get the best views of giraffes, hippos, cheetahs, and more. We even had to stop to let a few animals cross in the middle of our journey.

Adding on to the wonders of nature found in the park was the Tree of Life, which sits in the center of Animal Kingdom. Although not real, the tree holds the beauty of the environment with flowing waterfalls and carvings of animals.

With all of the available technology and resources nowadays, the Disney parks never seise to amaze me, and I was glad to find that turning 21 didn’t mean I was too old for these parks as they seem to be for just about any age. Of course, some attractions fit youngsters better, but for the most part, Charlotte and I were able to go on any ride in Animal Kingdom. I can’t wait to see what else Disney does to the parks in the future.
