Ansel Adams: Who I Aim To Be

Last week, I posted Who I Currently Resemble As A Photographer: Robert Adams. Today  I’d like to talk about the photographer I aim to be like: Ansel Adams (no relation to Robert). His black and white landscape photography is phenomenal! Like Robert Adams, Ansel Adams focused on the American West, but he also captured so much of the beauty of Yosemite National Park (definitely on my Bucket List).

“I hope that my work will encourage self-expression in others and stimulate the search for beauty and creative excitement in the great world around us.” -Ansel Adams

When comparing Robert and Ansel’s styles, I’ve noticed Ansel’s photos are darker in contrast, and many of his photos include mountains, water, and forestry. Robert Adams filled the frame with a lot of sky which brightens the photos more than Ansel’s. Ansel tended to fill the photo with more land than the sky. Here’s a comparison:

Since many of Ansel’s photos are of Yosemite, my own photography cannot be comparable to his yet. Where I live, there aren’t any mountains or even national parks. The only national park I’ve been to is Snowdonia National Park, Wales. The photos I took there can be a bit more comparable to Ansel’s photography than Robert’s, so it’s a start! Here’s a comparison:

I plan on visiting many more national parks and other places to resemble Ansel Adam’s photography while finding my own style as well.
